Bengal Governor Meets President Amid Flood Crisis and Political Tensions, Slams State Government Over Law and Order
In the wake of devastating floods and landslides in North Bengal—and a shocking attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers—West Bengal Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose met President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Governor Submits Report, Criticizes State Administration
During the meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Governor Bose briefed the President on recent developments in Bengal and submitted a factual report outlining the crisis. Speaking to the media afterward, he launched a scathing attack on the state government, stating, “There is a reign of hooliganism in Bengal. The police are not doing their job properly.”
He added, “I have informed the Chief Minister multiple times, but no action has been taken. My priority is a violence-free and corruption-free Bengal.”
The Governor described the situation in Bengal as “shocking,” citing both natural disasters and man-made atrocities witnessed on the streets. However, when asked about the possibility of invoking Article 356 (President’s Rule), he clarified that no such decision or discussion with the President has taken place yet.
TMC Responds: “Governor Acting Like BJP Agent”
Reacting strongly to the Governor’s remarks, senior Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee accused Bose of acting as a BJP agent. “Whatever the Governor says has no impact on the state government,” Banerjee stated.
Attack on BJP Leaders: Governor Demands Action
Referring to the alleged attack on BJP leaders visiting flood-affected areas, Governor Bose said he had given the police a 24-hour deadline on Tuesday to arrest the culprits. “That deadline has now passed. Necessary action will be taken,” he asserted.
