A heartbreaking case of cyber abuse has come to light in Baselwa Colony, Faridabad, where a 19-year-old college student allegedly died by suicide following sustained blackmail involving AI-generated obscene photos and videos. Police have registered a case against two accused, identified from chat records, and launched a technical probe to trace their involvement.

How the Blackmail Happened

  • Rahul, a second-year B.Com student at DAV College, reportedly had his mobile phone hacked two weeks ago.
  • Cybercriminals used artificial intelligence to generate fake nude images and videos of Rahul and his sisters.
  • These deepfakes were then sent to Rahul via WhatsApp, along with a demand for ₹20,000—threatening to make the content public if payment was not made.
  • One accused, Sahil, sent multiple threatening messages, including suicide encouragement, according to police and family statements.

Impact on the Victim
Rahul’s family noticed his behaviour changing drastically over the past fortnight—he withdrew from eating, talking, and daily activities, struggling with severe distress and shame over the extortion. On Saturday evening, Rahul consumed poison in his room. He was taken to hospital, but he died during treatment.

Police Investigation and Cyber Crime

  • An FIR is registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 108 (abetment to suicide).
  • Police are examining Rahul’s phone, chat histories, and social media logs to identify technical links and locate the suspected perpetrators, Sahil and Neeraj.
  • Investigators emphasize this as a serious case of AI deepfake misuse and cybercrime. Searches and technical tracking for the accused are ongoing.

A Wakeup Call for Cyber Safety
Rahul’s tragic death highlights the dangers of deepfake technology, which can be misused for blackmail and extortion. Police urge parents, students, and the public to remain vigilant, report cyber threats immediately, and take advantage of mental health counselling and cyber support helplines.

Authorities continue to work towards the speedy arrest of the suspects and justice for the victim’s family.
