The suspicious death of Akil Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa and ex-minister Razia Sultana, has sparked a storm in legal and political circles. Akil, a practicing lawyer in the Punjab & Haryana High Court, was found dead at his home in Panchkula on October 16, with initial reports citing a drug overdose as the cause. However, murder and criminal conspiracy charges have now been registered against his father, mother, wife, and sister after a neighbor’s complaint and the surfacing of two controversial videos filmed by Akil in August.
Viral Videos Detail Family Allegations
In a video dated August 27, Akil stated, “It’s August 27, and I am recording this video as evidence.” He alleged an affair between his wife and father, claiming he caught them together in the bathroom just a year after his marriage in 2018 and that he was illegally detained and falsely accused the very same day. He further claimed to overhear his mother and sister conspiring to either send him to jail or have him killed because “nothing is working for them in Panchkula.”
Akil’s accusations didn’t stop at immediate threats; he also accused his sister of running away to get married in 2012 when he was studying law in Sonepat, and linked her to prostitution. He questioned how she managed her finances without any visible talent or earnings.
Akil described his traumatic wedding night, claiming his wife refused intimacy and taunted him the next day, and reiterating that his marriage was effectively with his father, not himself. He also alleged kidnapping and forced rehabilitation by his father and manipulation via Punjab Police connections in Haryana.
Contradictory Second Video and Former DGP’s Response
In a later video, Akil lies in bed, acknowledges his mental illness, and thanks his family—specifically his sister—for caring for him and administering medication, though he admits past paranoia about being poisoned. He apologizes to his family, stating his earlier accusations were symptoms of psychological distress, and expresses gratitude for their support through his struggles.
After Akil’s death, former DGP Mustafa broke his silence at his native village in Saharanpur. He asserted that Akil suffered from severe mental health issues for years, especially since 2024, often not knowing what he was saying or doing. Mustafa claimed Akil’s violence towards family members—including an incident where Akil injured his mother in 2008—was covered up to protect the family’s reputation. He stressed that Akil’s allegations against his wife and family in viral videos were not rooted in reality and suggested some parties were now trying to politicize the tragedy.
Murder Investigation Underway
Following a complaint by a neighbor, Panchkula police registered an FIR for murder and criminal conspiracy against Mustafa, Razia Sultana, Akil’s wife, and sister. DCP Srishti revealed a special investigation team has been formed to thoroughly probe the circumstances surrounding Akil’s death.
This case, fueled by disturbing digital evidence and grave allegations, remains under investigation as police work to separate fact from fiction in a family tragedy that has quickly become a political and media sensation.
