Starting November 1, 2025, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will implement sweeping reforms to Aadhaar card services, making it easier, faster, and more secure for residents to update their information. These changes aim to eliminate long queues and multiple visits to Aadhaar centers by enabling online updates verified automatically against government databases.

Key Updates Include:

  • No need to visit Aadhaar Seva Kendras for updating name, address, date of birth, or mobile number; these can now be updated online from home.
  • Information provided will be automatically verified using PAN cards, passports, driver’s licenses, ration cards, and other official databases, increasing transparency and reducing document uploads.
  • Update fees: ₹75 for demographic details (name, address, mobile), ₹125 for biometric updates (fingerprint, iris, photo).
  • Biometric updates for children (5-7 and 15-17 years) will remain free.
  • Document updates online are free until June 14, 2026; thereafter, fees will apply at service centers.
  • Additional charges include ₹40 for Aadhaar reprints and ₹700 for home enrolment for the first person.

Mandatory PAN Linking:

Every PAN card holder must link their PAN with Aadhaar by December 31, 2025; failure to do so will render their PAN inactive from January 1, 2026. This deactivation will restrict individuals from filing income tax returns or using PAN for financial transactions. The government introduced this to curb tax evasion and fraud.

Simplified KYC Process:

Banks, mutual funds, and other financial institutions can now complete KYC digitally using Aadhaar OTP verification, video KYC, or face-to-face verification. This paperless system will save time and enhance security for parties involved.

Digital India Boost:

UIDAI’s new rules will further strengthen India’s digital identity infrastructure, granting citizens easier access to services and safeguarding against identity fraud. Citizens who delay updating documents or linking PAN with Aadhaar risk facing hurdles in financial and governmental transactions in the future.

These reforms signify a leap forward in digitization and convenience, promising a transparent, modern, and secure Aadhaar experience for millions across India.
