Patna Woman Files Complaint Against Husband Alleging Deception, Forced Religious Conversion and Bigamy
A woman from Patna has lodged a serious complaint against her husband, alleging that he deceived her by hiding his true identity, pressurized her to convert her religion after marriage, and subsequently married another woman when she refused. Police have registered a case and opened an investigation into the allegations of fraud, mental harassment, and bigamy.
Allegations of Identity Fraud and Exploitation
The accused, Imran, originally from Bhojpur district and residing in Patna’s Shastrinagar area, had reportedly introduced himself as ‘Sonu’ when he met the complainant at their private workplace. After developing a relationship over two years, the woman discovered Imran’s real identity. Initially reassured by Imran’s promises of love, the couple proceeded to marry in court and lived together in Patna.
However, post-marriage, the woman alleges that her husband began pressuring her to adopt his religion. When she refused, she claims she was subjected to mental harassment and that Imran deliberately ensured for six years that they did not have a child. The situation worsened four months ago when Imran married another woman, without her knowledge or consent.
Police Investigation and Search for Justice
Following these events, the victim filed a case at the women’s police station, accusing Imran of cheating, harassment, and bigamy. The police summoned both parties for counseling, but Imran did not appear. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement looking into the full extent of the alleged exploitation and subsequent marriage.
Broader Context
The case spotlights a recurring pattern of identity fraud and forced religious conversion within marital relationships in India, with multiple complaints reported in recent months. In such incidents, victims often allege that their partners concealed their true identity, pressured for conversion, and at times, faced threats or violence when resisting.
With the investigation underway, the Patna woman has urged local authorities to ensure her safety and hold the accused accountable under the applicable laws.
Police continue to gather evidence while advocacy groups call for greater awareness and stricter enforcement against all forms of relationship-based coercion and fraud.
