A senior IPS officer from Chhattisgarh, Ratan Lal Dangi, has been accused of sexual harassment by the wife of a sub-inspector, creating a major stir within the state police department. The complaint, filed earlier this week, alleges that Dangi, currently serving as a senior officer in the police academy at Chandkhuri, subjected the woman to prolonged physical and mental harassment over several years.

According to reports, the complainant claims that she first met Dangi in 2017 when he was posted as Superintendent of Police in Korba. Their acquaintance allegedly grew through social media and video calls. The woman asserts that Dangi forced her to maintain contact through frequent video calls, sometimes threatening to have her husband transferred to Naxal-affected areas if she refused his demands. She reportedly submitted digital evidence supporting her claims to senior officials.

The charges have triggered preliminary inquiries at the state Police Headquarters (PHQ). Senior officials have confirmed that a fact-finding committee may soon be formed to probe the case, though no official FIR has been registered yet.

In response, IPS Ratan Lal Dangi has strongly denied the allegations, labeling the case an act of “blackmail and extortion.” He has submitted a separate 14-point written complaint to Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, outlining how, according to him, the woman had been intimidating and coercing him for months. In the letter, Dangi alleges that the woman repeatedly threatened to defame him using private videos and photos, and even engaged in self-harm theatrics to maintain control over him.

Dangi requested that a formal investigation be launched to expose what he describes as a “criminal conspiracy” and to protect his family from mental harassment.

Ratan Lal Dangi, a 2003-batch IPS officer originally from Rajasthan, has held prominent positions across Chhattisgarh, including postings in Bijapur, Kanker, Korba, and Bilaspur. Known for his discipline and fitness advocacy, Dangi has been awarded the President’s Police Gallantry Medal twice and was seen as a frontrunner for the position of Raipur’s first Police Commissioner before these allegations surfaced.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the progress of the internal investigation, but both sides continue to exchange allegations as the controversy intensifies within the state’s policing ranks.
